Kim Sunmin Meets Lee Jongchan
Vows to Make 80th Anniversary of Liberation the Starting Point for Eradicating Pro-Japanese Remnants and the Far-Right New Right Movement

Kim Sunmin, acting leader of the Innovation Party for the Motherland, met with Lee Jongchan, President of the Liberation Association, on August 12 and stated, "We will make the 80th anniversary of Liberation the starting point for a complete eradication of pro-Japanese remnants and the far-right New Right movement."

After meeting with President Lee at the Liberation Association Hall in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Kim said, "During the era of Yoon Suk-yeol's prosecutorial dictatorship, the Liberation Association's commitment to defending the constitutional order gave great courage to the people," and conveyed this message.

Kim also mentioned, "Former party leader Cho Kuk visited the Liberation Association around this time last year," and added, "At that time, President Lee presented former leader Cho with a reproduction of Baekbeom Kim Gu's keepsake watch, which he has kept with great care."

In response, President Lee referred to the pardon and reinstatement of former leader Cho Kuk, saying, "I am very pleased, and I believe this could serve as an opportunity for Korean democracy and party politics to move in the right direction," adding, "Congratulations on the normalization of your party."

He continued, "Since the situation is still not fully normalized, I hope the Innovation Party for the Motherland will play a greater role in revitalizing it and demonstrate what true reform in our politics means."

President Lee also addressed the issue of normalizing parliamentary negotiation groups. He said, "The requirement of 20 members for a negotiation group is not stipulated in the Constitution or the Political Parties Act," and added, "It was suggested that 20 members would be appropriate to prevent chaos in parliamentary negotiations, but the problem is that this has come to be treated as if it were written in the Constitution."

In response, acting leader Kim said, "Before the Park Chung-hee Yushin regime, the requirement for forming a negotiation group was ten or more lawmakers," to which President Lee replied, "That was the case before the Yushin era."

Meanwhile, on this day, Supreme Council members Cha Kyugeun and Lee Haemin, as well as lawmaker Baek Sunhee, accompanied the visit to the Liberation Association.
