NHN reported a slight year-on-year increase in revenue for the second quarter of this year, but operating profit declined. NHN's strategy is to pursue both growth and enhanced shareholder value in the second half of the year through the launch of new games, expansion of advanced graphics processing unit (GPU) infrastructure, and increased shareholder returns.
According to NHN on August 12, consolidated revenue for the second quarter reached 604.9 billion won, up 0.9% from the same period last year and 0.8% from the previous quarter. In contrast, operating profit was 21.9 billion won, down 23% year-on-year and 20.7% quarter-on-quarter.
By segment, game revenue rose 8% year-on-year to 114.9 billion won. Despite the seasonal off-peak period, web board game revenue increased by 1.9%, and "Hangame Poker Classic" grew by 16% thanks to new content. The Japanese mobile game "Compass" saw a 12.9% increase in revenue due to collaborations with popular manga titles.
Payment segment revenue rose 7.8% to 309.4 billion won, driven by increased transaction volume from major overseas merchants using NHN KCP. The Payco coupon business grew 15% quarter-on-quarter. Transaction volume for corporate welfare solutions also increased by 42% year-on-year. The technology segment posted revenue of 104.5 billion won, up 6.6% year-on-year, but down 1.1% quarter-on-quarter due to the high base effect from one-off revenue in the first quarter. NHN Dooray saw a 27% increase in revenue thanks to an expanded customer base in the public and financial sectors.
NHN Cloud has been selected as the largest contractor for the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency's "GPU Procurement, Construction, and Operation Support Project," and plans to secure more than 7,000 units of NVIDIA's latest GPU "B200" by the first quarter of next year. The company also plans to continue participating in government AI projects, such as the Gwangju National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Center, contributing to the expansion of the domestic AI ecosystem.
For the second half of the year, NHN's game business plans include the launch of the subculture RPG "Abyssdia" in Japan, the official release of "Darkest Days," and the launch of "Project STAR," a puzzle game utilizing the "Oshi no Ko" IP.
NHN also announced a three-year shareholder return policy for 2026 to 2028. Each year, 15% of EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) from the previous year will be allocated to shareholder returns, to be used for dividends and share buybacks. More than half of newly acquired treasury shares will be canceled within the year of acquisition. The company plans to cancel approximately 3% of its total outstanding shares within this year.
Chief Executive Officer Jung Woojin said, "We achieved balanced revenue growth across our core business segments," adding, "We will maximize shareholder value by strengthening profitability and financial soundness while faithfully implementing our shareholder return policy."
