"Did Not Feed Formula": Two-Month-Old Baby Dies in Mokpo Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency building exterior

A couple in their twenties has been arrested by the police in Jeonnam after they abandoned their two-month-old baby in Mokpo, resulting in the infant's death.

The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on August 11 that they had urgently apprehended the parents in their twenties on charges including child abuse resulting in death and abandonment of a corpse.

The couple is accused of causing the death of their two-month-old baby by neglecting to care for the child, including failing to feed the infant formula on time.

It was confirmed that at the time of death, the baby had been living with the mother, identified as Ms. A, in a lodging facility in Mokpo. The father, identified as Mr. B, lived separately from them but was found to have frequently visited the lodging facility where the baby stayed.

Mr. B was employed until recently, while Ms. A was found to be unemployed.

The baby is estimated to have died about two weeks ago, and the parents reportedly left the child's body unattended in the room of the lodging facility.

Due to the severe decomposition of the body at the time of discovery, the police requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service and are investigating various possibilities, including homicide.

A Jeonnam police official stated, "During the investigation, the parents admitted that they did not properly feed the baby," adding, "However, we are considering multiple possibilities, including assault and illness, as we proceed with the investigation."
