Taking the First Step Toward Responding to the Climate Crisis Together with Citizens

This launch ceremony is particularly meaningful as it marks the first step toward strengthening citizens' capacity to respond to the climate crisis and establishing a carbon neutrality governance system that connects municipal administration with citizens.
During the ceremony, the following events took place: awarding of appointment certificates, an introduction to the activities of the Carbon Neutrality Citizen Participation Group, and a discussion session among group members.
The citizen participation group, which was selected through an open recruitment process in July and officially appointed at this event, consists of a total of 15 members. These members are citizens of various ages and professions.
They will participate in the implementation process of Goyang City's "1st Basic Plan for Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth," reflecting citizens' perspectives in policy and proposing effective climate actions.
The city plans to use this launch ceremony as a meaningful starting point for strengthening the public-private cooperation system at the local level. It intends to accelerate the establishment of a citizen-centered carbon neutrality practice model and the development of climate policies linked to municipal administration.
A city official stated, "Responding to the climate crisis is not a task for the administration alone, but something that must be done together with citizens," adding, "We hope that the Carbon Neutrality Citizen Participation Group will serve as a practical bridge and revitalize municipal administration."
Meanwhile, Goyang City opened the Carbon Neutrality Support Center last year and has been strengthening regional climate response policies based on citizen participation. To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the city aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 36% compared to 2018 levels by 2030 and is pursuing 105 detailed projects across various sectors, including buildings, transportation, waste, agriculture and livestock, and carbon sinks.
