On August 11, SK Innovation announced that it is accepting applications from executives, including those at its business subsidiaries, to switch their company vehicles to one of Hyundai Motor Company's flagship electric vehicle models: the Ioniq 9 or the eG80. SK On, the battery subsidiary, supplies batteries for both of these electric vehicle models.
SK Innovation will begin replacing executive vehicles with electric vehicles starting in early September and aims to complete the transition by the end of this year.
In conjunction with the transition to electric vehicles, SK Innovation affiliates plan to significantly expand EV charging and safety facilities at their office buildings, including the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Since June last year, SK On has been operating a discount program to encourage employees to purchase electric vehicles equipped with SK On batteries, limited to Hyundai and Kia models. Notably, in the third quarter of this year, the company increased the purchase support amount for the Ioniq 9 from 10 million won to 15 million won as part of this discount program.
An SK Innovation official stated, "The domestic electric vehicle industry as a whole has faced difficulties due to factors such as the global economic downturn and the EV chasm (a temporary stagnation in demand). By having all executives use electric vehicles, we aim to contribute to increasing the domestic EV adoption rate."
