Sejong City Accepting First-Come, First-Served Applications for Emission Reduction Device Subsidies for Aging Diesel Vehicles

Applications Open for 12 Remaining Slots in the Second Half of the Year
Over 90% of Installation Costs Subsidized

In order to partially reduce emissions from aging diesel vehicles, it is necessary to install emission reduction devices on current Grade 5 vehicles that do not yet have such devices installed.

According to Sejong City on August 10, if a diesel particulate filter (DPF) is installed on a Grade 5 aging diesel vehicle, the city will subsidize more than 90% of the installation cost, with a maximum subsidy of up to 3.82 million KRW per vehicle. After the installation of the reduction device, part of the maintenance costs, such as filter replacement and performance inspections, will also be supported separately.

The total number of vehicles eligible for support in the second half of the year is 20. As of now, applications for the remaining 12 vehicles are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until October 28, and the program will close early if the budget is exhausted. Eligible vehicles must be Grade 5 diesel vehicles registered in the region that have been owned for at least six months and have no history of overdue environmental improvement charges or violations of related laws.

Vehicles equipped with emission reduction devices will be exempt from driving restrictions and enforcement in the Seoul metropolitan area and air quality management zones, and will also be able to proactively respond to stricter environmental regulations in the future. Applications can be submitted through the Comprehensive Automobile Emissions Information System. For more details, applicants can refer to the announcement on the city website or contact the Environmental Policy Division.

A city official stated, "Since the emission reduction device subsidy program will end in 2026, owners of vehicles that require device installation must complete their applications this year or next year."
