Anticipation for an 'Economic Platform' Connecting the Public and Businesses
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) announced on the 11th that it has revamped its communication platform, 'Sople', transforming it into a practical, participatory economic platform.
This overhaul focuses on making complex economic information easily understandable for everyone, and enabling both businesses and the public to participate in economic issues together. In particular, KCCI explained that it has significantly enhanced features that go beyond simply delivering information, actively encouraging 'economic judgment and participation'.
The 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Legislative Report' is one of the most notable new features. When a new bill or policy document is released, AI provides it in the form of a report. This allows users to quickly grasp the key points at a glance, without having to search through the websites of the Ministry of Government Legislation or the National Assembly. The AI not only summarizes the content, but also analyzes its impact on business management. For example, if a user wonders, "How will a change in this bill affect my company?", the AI identifies both the risk factors and the opportunities. This is expected to provide practical assistance in establishing business strategies.
Regarding recent questions about the amendment to the Commercial Act, which has become a hot topic among companies, the platform provides not only the main revisions but also discusses the potential impact on startups preparing for IPOs outside of large corporations, the expanded disclosure requirements for corporate governance reports, and the broadening scope of the internal accounting management system. It highlights the possibility that the scope of application may expand in the future, emphasizing that various companies should pay close attention.
This revamp could also create an 'online public hearing' space for contentious bills. Businesspeople, experts, and ordinary citizens can all register their opinions on a given issue, and diverse views can be exchanged through votes for or against and comment discussions.
Currently, Sople is running a survey on the controversial issue of lowering the threshold for major shareholder capital gains tax. In this survey, 63.0% supported maintaining the 5 billion won threshold. Those opposed to lowering the threshold cited concerns about stock price declines due to avoidance selling, while supporters argued that "it is only natural to tax where there is income."
A KCCI official stated, "Legislation and policy have a significant impact on the economy and business management, but often there is insufficient collection of opinions before decisions are finalized. We hope Sople will become a space where diverse and realistic voices can be gathered openly, contributing to more balanced legislation."
A new feature has also been introduced that recommends content based on users' age, job, and areas of interest. For example, IT professionals will be shown expert columns or developer community posts related to AI, while users interested in environmental issues will see related policy topics or research materials. This feature was made possible because Sople has already accumulated around 240,000 pieces of content, including KCCI and research institute reports, government policy documents, expert columns, and public discussion posts.
A new crowdfunding feature has also been introduced to encourage user participation. Users can invest in posts they resonate with, and if the funding target is met, both the author and the investors receive rewards. This applies the concept of corporate investment to content, offering both the fun and satisfaction of contributing to content growth, thereby encouraging voluntary participation. The real-time economic discussion feature has also been strengthened. 'Sople-On-Air', which will allow businesspeople, YouTubers, other experts, and the public to communicate in real time on major issues, is currently in preparation. Rather than just listening to expert lectures, users will be able to engage in interactive Q&A sessions, providing deeper insights into key issues.
Park Dongmin, Executive Vice President of KCCI, stated, "Since the introduction of AI search and draft writing features in April, the number of posts has increased by 1,580% and participation by 508%. Having confirmed that technology can serve as a catalyst for participation, we will continue to develop Sople into a leading platform that naturally connects the public and businesses for communication on economic issues."
