Where Are the Beautiful Gardens Cultivated by Citizens in Sejong, the Garden City?

A Beautiful Garden Contest will be held to discover and showcase a variety of gardens cultivated by individuals, with the aim of spreading garden culture and encouraging citizens to voluntarily participate in gardening.

According to Sejong City on August 10, any citizen who tends a garden is eligible to participate. Applications can be submitted through the city’s website from August 18 to September 12. The contest categories are: ▲Private gardens created in yards, on rooftops, or apartment verandas ▲Public gardens established at institutions, commercial establishments, or schools ▲Village gardens developed in alleyways or on small plots of land ▲Apartment gardens created in multi-family housing, for a total of four categories.

The judging panel, composed of garden experts from the Korea Arboretum and Garden Management Agency and the National Sejong Arboretum, will evaluate both the application documents and the gardens on-site. After the evaluation, the panel will select a grand prize winner, a Best Garden Award, and a Beautiful Garden Award in each category, presenting a certification plaque to each winner.

Notably, during the contest evaluation process, experts will visit participating gardens to provide consulting services, aiming to enhance the overall quality of the gardens.

Since 2021, a total of 29 gardens have been recognized as Beautiful Gardens: 14 private gardens, 9 public gardens, 3 village gardens, and 3 apartment gardens.

Kwon Youngseok, Director of Environment and Greenery, stated, "Beautiful gardens voluntarily created by citizens are a valuable asset for Sejong, the garden city," and added, "We hope for the active interest and enthusiastic participation of all citizens who love gardens."
