JCS: "North Korean Military Begins Dismantling Loudspeakers Toward South in Some Forward Areas Today" Yonhap News

In a text message sent to reporters at the Ministry of National Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, "It has been confirmed that starting this morning, North Korean forces have been dismantling loudspeakers directed at South Korea in some forward areas." The Joint Chiefs of Staff added, "Further verification is needed to determine whether loudspeakers are being dismantled in all areas, and our military will continue to monitor related activities by North Korean forces."

It is understood that North Korea had installed loudspeakers directed at the South in approximately 40 locations, and some of these have already been dismantled. This move by North Korea is seen as a response to the recent dismantling of anti-North loudspeakers by our military in forward areas as part of psychological operations against the North.

On August 5, the military dismantled all of its approximately 20 fixed anti-North loudspeakers. The dismantling, which began on August 4 to ease tensions between the two Koreas, was completed in just one day, and the removed equipment is being stored within the relevant military units.
