'Kpop Demon Hunters' Craze Especially Hot in North America... YouTube Interest Soars

Google Trends Interest Peaks in the US and Canada
Content Analyzing Korean Culture and Social Issues Also Gains Popularity

The global sensation surrounding the Netflix animation 'Kpop Demon Hunters' (Kedeheon) continues to grow, with particularly enthusiastic responses in North America.


On August 9, Yonhap News cited Google Trends statistics in its report. Google Trends quantifies YouTube viewers' interest in specific keywords by assigning a value of 100 to the most frequently searched term.


In the United States, interest in 'Kpop Demon Hunters' within the YouTube Arts & Entertainment category started at 50 in early July, rose to 75 in mid-July, and reached between 90 and 100 from late July to early August.

Since the release of 'Kpop Demon Hunters' on June 20, this keyword ranked 16th among trending searches as of August 7, marking a 550% increase compared to the previous period. The OST 'Golden' ranked 19th, with a 450% increase.


In Canada, interest remained at around 75 from early July and approached 100 in late July. In contrast, in Korea, interest peaked at 100 on July 7 and has been declining since then.


Meanwhile, Korean YouTube viewers are showing strong engagement with OST cover videos. The cover of 'Golden' by YouTuber 'Soonigroup' has reached 7.15 million views, while covers by singer Bada (2.57 million views) and Kwon Jina (3.04 million views) are also gaining popularity. Overseas, TikToker Andrea Obeid, who lives in New York, has joined the cover trend as well.


In addition, content analyzing Korean culture or addressing social contexts, such as the video '107 Facts You Need to Know About Kpop Demon Hunters' by YouTuber 'Channel Frederator' with 2.17 million subscribers, is also gaining popularity.


'Kpop Demon Hunters' is an occult animation that tells the story of Huntrix, a globally popular K-POP girl group who become heroes by hunting demons offstage. The film was directed by Korean-Canadian director Maggie Kang, and top producers including Teddy, who has worked with Blackpink, participated in the OST.
