Hanam City Holds Resident Briefing Session on Han River Bridge
Han River Bridge Connecting Seondong and Suseok Scheduled to Begin Construction by Year-End
Hanam City Requests Design Improvements
Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) announced on August 8 that it had held a resident briefing session on the detailed design plan for the Han River Bridge (tentatively named Seondong Bridge/Suseok Bridge, hereinafter referred to as the Han River Bridge) on the 3rd floor of the Misa 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 7th, organized by LH.
Lee Hyunjae, mayor of Hanam City, held a resident briefing session on the detailed design plan for the Han River Bridge (tentatively named Seondong Bridge/Suseok Bridge), organized by LH, on the 3rd floor of Misa 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 7th. Provided by Hanam City
This briefing session was arranged in connection with the construction of the new Han River Bridge, which is being promoted as part of the wide-area transportation improvement plan for Wangjuk New Town in Namyangju. LH, the project implementation agency, disclosed the detailed design plan and collected residents' opinions. The event was open to all without prior registration, allowing anyone to participate freely.
The Han River Bridge will connect Seondong in Hanam City and Suseok-dong in Namyangju City. The bridge will be 794 meters long and 24.9 meters wide, with four lanes in both directions. The project is being promoted in parallel with the expansion of Olympic-daero, which will extend from Seondong IC in Hanam to Gangil IC in Seoul.
LH plans to complete the detailed design by November this year, sign a contract with the Hyundai Engineering & Construction consortium, and aims to begin construction by the end of 2025.
Local residents have expressed concerns about environmental damage, such as the disruption of the Han River landscape, noise, and dust, as well as the impact on nearby residential complexes and educational facilities, including Eungaram Middle School. In response, Hanam City has continuously requested that the access road be planned along the Han River (on the north side of Olympic-daero).
Additionally, during the design consultation stage, the city requested that the bridge be designed not only with a focus on functionality but also with consideration for the landscape and residents' convenience. In April, referring to Seoul's examples such as the "Noeul Cafe" and "Gureum Cafe" on Dongjak Bridge and the lighting facilities on Dongho Bridge, the city proposed the installation of convenience facilities near Seondong IC that could serve as local landmarks.
In fact, at the resident briefing session in Namyangju City on June 27, a plan for convenience facilities, including an observatory near Mieumnaru IC, was disclosed. Hanam City has repeatedly emphasized that equivalent facilities must also be established near Seondong IC.
Since the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport finalized the construction of the Han River Bridge in June last year, Hanam City has also demanded the thorough implementation of the conditions that were attached to the approval.
The conditions include the construction of a new connection road from Misa Bridge to Misa IC, the development of an overpass at the Garaeyeoul intersection on the Gangil IC detour road, and the opening of an access road to Misa using the auxiliary road between the Gangil IC detour road and Olympic-daero. The city maintains that these measures must be implemented in advance to alleviate traffic congestion and minimize inconvenience to residents.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae of Hanam City stated, "The construction of the Han River Bridge is not simply an expansion of infrastructure but a matter that directly affects the living environment of our citizens. Minimizing damage and reflecting residents' demands as much as possible will be our top priority, and we will respond responsibly until the end."
