Taking Care of All Employees and Partner Company Workers Amid the Scorching Heat
Are you familiar with a Watermelon Meeting?
Yoo Sangchul, CEO of HJ Heavy Industries, held a surprise event by providing more than 300 watermelons to all employees in the company ahead of Malbok, the hottest period of the summer. Earlier, during Chobok, CEO Yoo also distributed more than 300 watermelons to shipyard workers, meaning that he has given out over 600 watermelons just this summer.
On August 7, HJ Heavy Industries purchased more than 300 watermelons to encourage employees who were sweating under the scorching heat while focusing on shipbuilding work. The company delivered the watermelons to all workers, including those from partner companies, at the Yeongdo Shipyard.
On the same day, CEO Yoo Sangchul personally visited the worksite at Yeongdo Shipyard and handed out watermelons to representatives of in-house partner companies. He also held a 'Watermelon Meeting' to listen to their difficulties and discuss possible improvements. This initiative was aimed at strengthening partnerships with employees of partner companies who work on the front lines.
CEO Yoo stated, "The hottest season is the most challenging time to work at a shipyard, where most tasks are performed outdoors. I decided to distribute watermelons so that everyone sweating on-site can stay hydrated, as I sincerely hope they spend the summer safely and in good health."
HJ Heavy Industries explained that every summer it provides ice-cold bottled water, sunscreen, sunshades, and air-cooling jackets to ensure the health and safety of its workers. The company also increases the availability of stamina-boosting foods such as Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and meat dishes in the cafeteria, and offers ice cream as snacks to help employees maintain their energy levels.
