On August 7, the National Science Museum surpassed 35 million cumulative visitors since October 9, 1990.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the museum's opening (October 13, 1945) and the 35th anniversary of its relocation to Daedeok (October 9, 1990). Over the past 35 years, an average of 1 million people have visited the museum annually, establishing it as a leading institution where the public enjoys science culture.
On this day, the National Science Museum held events to commemorate its 80th anniversary and surpassing 35 million cumulative visitors. The first 500 visitors of the day received commemorative gifts, and a special prize was awarded to the 35 millionth visitor.
The honor of being the 35 millionth visitor went to Kim Jiyul, a second-grade student at Munji Elementary School who lives in Daejeon. Kim Jiyul, who especially enjoys the Science and Technology Hall and the Natural History Hall at the National Science Museum, said, "Since it's summer vacation, I came to visit the planetarium, which I hadn't been to before, and I am delighted to receive such an unexpected gift."
Kwon Seokmin, Director of the National Science Museum, stated, "I would like to thank everyone who has supported and visited the National Science Museum so far. All of our staff will continue to do our best to make the museum a world-class institution."
