Gapyeong County: “A Great Support for Our Residents”
Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province has expressed its deep gratitude to the Capital Mechanized Infantry Division (hereafter referred to as the Sugi Division or the Maengho Unit) for providing full-scale civilian support to enable the rapid recovery of the entire Gapyeong area, which suffered extensive damage from the heavy rains in July.

According to Gapyeong County on August 7, the Sugi Division deployed a cumulative total of approximately 17,200 soldiers to restoration work in major affected areas?including Jojeong-myeon, Sang-myeon, Buk-myeon, Cheongpyeong-myeon, and Gapyeong-eup?from July 21 through August 6. In addition, the division has mobilized all available resources, including more than 300 pieces of heavy equipment such as excavators and dump trucks, as well as military dogs and drones, to continue recovery operations and search efforts for missing persons.
Soldiers from the Sugi Division have worked alongside local residents in a variety of areas, including removing debris from homes and commercial areas, repairing roads and drainage systems, searching for missing persons, providing medical and quarantine support, and offering laundry services.
Seo Taewon, the mayor of Gapyeong County, said, "Thanks to the silent dedication of the Sugi Division soldiers, who have given up their days off and worked tirelessly in the ongoing heatwave, our residents have found the courage to get back on their feet. I sincerely thank everyone in the Sugi Division for demonstrating the true role of the military in service of the people."

Kim Seonggu, commander of the Sugi Division, stated, "Our Maengho Unit will do everything possible until the very end to help affected residents return to their daily lives as soon as possible. As the 'military of the people,' we will fulfill our responsibilities and continue to work together with the local community."
Gapyeong County reported that, as a result of the recent heavy rains, large-scale landslides and flooding occurred in areas such as Jojeong-myeon and Gapyeong-eup. In response, the public sector, private sector, and military are all making concerted efforts to provide rapid emergency recovery and livelihood support.

Meanwhile, the Sugi Division is taking thorough measures to prevent heat-related illnesses among its soldiers at recovery sites, including deploying first aid kits and emergency heat kits, installing shade structures, providing water, and ensuring sufficient rest periods.
