Kim Yoonduk, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited the Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Corporation and the planned construction site for the Gadeokdo New Airport on the 7th to review the progress of the project. He personally inspected the site conditions and met with experts in airport construction to hear their opinions.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained, "With the selection of a contractor for the Gadeokdo New Airport site development project having fallen through, there is now a need to devise normalization measures to relaunch the project," adding, "This visit is part of efforts to gather a wide range of opinions from the local community and the field." Previously, President Lee Jaemyung held a meeting in Busan last month and promised, "We will not let the project stall or be delayed."

Minister Kim reviewed the progress of the project so far. He presided over a meeting attended by airport construction and project management experts, as well as representatives from local governments. He stated, "Although I have not been in office long, I came here because the Gadeokdo New Airport is an important and challenging issue," and added, "Since this is a government decision, I will seek wise solutions to keep our promise to the public."
According to the Ministry, the meeting covered topics such as the direction for the site development project, safety issues including bird strikes, and the establishment of an integrated project management system. After the meeting, Minister Kim toured the planned airport construction sites, including Daehang Observatory and Saebaji Port.
Minister Kim said, "Based on the vivid feedback I received on site today, I will actively seek ways to relaunch the project quickly while ensuring sufficient safety and quality," and emphasized, "It is most important to review the problems that have arisen during the project and to come up with feasible normalization measures."
