Gyeonggi Province announced on August 7 that Hanwoo cattle from the farm of Geunwon Kwak in Anseong City were selected as the best premium Hanwoo beef in the province this year at the "7th Gyeonggi Premium Hanwoo Beef Evaluation Contest" held at Dodram Anseong Livestock Products Market.

This contest was organized by the Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters of NongHyup Agribusiness Group, with support from Gyeonggi Province, the Gyeongin District Livestock Cooperative Council, and the Gyeonggi Branch of the National Hanwoo Association. Hanwoo farmers and livestock cooperative officials from the province attended the event.
A total of 54 Hanwoo cattle from 49 farms across 16 cities and counties, recommended by local livestock cooperatives and brand companies, were entered in the contest. Judges from the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Institute and the Korea Animal Improvement Association evaluated the entries based on carcass grade (95%) and farm environment (5%), ensuring a fair assessment.
As a result of the evaluation, the grand prize went to Geunwon Kwak’s farm from Anseong Livestock Cooperative; the excellence award was given to Yongju Kim’s farm from Icheon Livestock Cooperative; encouragement awards were presented to the farms of Jungyun Kim, Wonmin Hwang, and Woongjin Jung; the best brand award went to Gapyeong Livestock Cooperative’s Jatgoeul Hanwoo; and the special award (Cheongchun Yechan) was awarded to Yeonjong Gyeon’s farm.
In particular, the grand prize-winning Hanwoo was shipped at a weight of 942kg, with a grade of 1++A and a carcass weight of 620kg. It was auctioned at 63,000 won per kilogram, which is significantly higher than the average auction price of 19,624 won per kilogram, demonstrating its outstanding quality.
The awards ceremony will be held on August 8 in Yongin, together with the Grill Master event. Gyeonggi Province also plans to present commendations to individuals and organizations that made significant contributions to this contest.
