Son Heungmin (33), who has left English professional football club Tottenham Hotspur to join Los Angeles FC (LAFC) in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, delivered his final farewell to the team he spent 10 years with. On August 7, Tottenham released a video message from Son to his teammates on the club's official Instagram, accompanied by a post titled "From Captain Son Heungmin to the players."

Appearing in the video with his nose reddened, Son began, "Hey guys, it's your captain," and hesitated, saying, "I don't know what to say." He continued, "You were everything to me, and you were warriors. Because you respected me, I felt special every single day." He added, "Now, it's the end, and it's your turn. Please make this club even more special, make it shine brighter."
He went on to say, "Thank you for the wonderful memories," and expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your dedication and for everything you have done for me and for this club." He further added, "I swear, I love you more than anything. I was truly grateful that you were my team," and, shedding tears, said, "I wish all of you the very best of luck."
Son said, "We will always be friends," and added, "If you ever need anything from this old guy, just reach out. I will always be there for you." He concluded the letter by saying, "I love you all, and I send my very best wishes to everyone."

On the same day, LAFC announced Son Heungmin's signing on its official website. The club stated, "We have completed the full transfer of Son Heungmin from Tottenham," and introduced him as "one of the most talented and popular players in the history of Asian football." Tottenham also made the transfer official by posting on the main page of its website, "Sonny has left for LAFC in MLS."
Through LAFC, Son shared his thoughts: "I am proud to become a member of LAFC, a club full of ambition, in Los Angeles, one of the most iconic sports cities in the world." He added, "LA is a city with a rich history of champions. I am here to write the next chapter together."
