Namhangang Suspension Bridge Surpasses 1.18 Million Visitors in Yeoju
Yeoju Takes a Major Step Toward Becoming a Stay-Type Tourism City

The Namhangang Suspension Bridge in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, which opened in May, has surpassed a cumulative total of 1.18 million visitors within just three months, leading a new leap forward for tourism in Yeoju.

Citizens are walking on the 'Yeoju Namhangang Suspension Bridge,' which opened on May 1st.

Since the bridge opened, the newly established Visitor Center has recorded approximately 34,000 visitors, and the number of overnight guests has reached 809.

These figures show a rapid growth trend despite being in the early stages after opening, demonstrating that the suspension bridge is quickly establishing itself as Yeoju’s representative tourism landmark.

Especially with the peak autumn tourism season approaching and the 'Ogoknaru Festival' scheduled for the end of October, it is highly likely that the cumulative number of tourists will exceed 3 million by the end of the year.

The Ogoknaru Festival is a signature event that blends Yeoju’s traditional agricultural culture with modern tourism content, attracting numerous visitors from across the country every year.

Building on these achievements, Yeoju City is pursuing various infrastructure expansions and program developments with the goal of becoming a ‘stay-type tourism city.’

The city is working to extend visitors’ stays and provide tangible benefits to the local economy by expanding tourism courses that connect the suspension bridge, Silleuksa Temple, Yeongwollu Pavilion, Yeoju Museum, barefoot walking trails, and small-scale events; nighttime scenic lighting that highlights the Namhangang River views; historical and cultural experience programs; and food festivals featuring local specialties.

Yeoju Mayor Lee Chungwoo stated, “The Namhangang Suspension Bridge is becoming a crucial turning point for Yeoju to grow as a leading tourism city in the Seoul metropolitan area,” adding, “We will do our utmost to revitalize the local economy and develop Yeoju into a high-quality tourism city where culture, history, and nature come together.”

The Yeoju Suspension Bridge is a pedestrian-only suspension bridge, 515 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, built to commemorate the birthday of King Sejong. It offers a panoramic view of the scenic Namhangang River and has become a popular tourist destination. Since opening, the number of family travelers, group tourists, and foreign visitors has steadily increased, bringing new vitality to Yeoju’s tourism sector.
