This drill was carried out to protect public officials from verbal abuse and physical assaults by civil petitioners, which have been occurring frequently in recent times. It also aimed to establish an organic cooperation system with the police, enabling a swift response in the event of an emergency.
The simulation drill was conducted as if it were a real situation, following the guidelines for responding to illegal acts and repeated petitions by civil petitioners. The drill included the following steps: inducing the petitioner to calm down, recording the incident using portable protective equipment, restraining the offending petitioner and calling the police via an emergency bell for a prompt response, protecting the affected public official and evacuating visiting petitioners, and finally, handing the petitioner over to the police.
Oh Hyejeong, Head of the General Affairs Division, said, "I would like to thank the visiting petitioners who cooperated during the drill," and added, "We will continue to make ongoing efforts through regular training and education to respond firmly to illegal acts by petitioners, protect the responsible public officials, and create a civil service office environment where not only public officials but also petitioners can feel safe when visiting."
