Powering the "Lucid Air Grand Touring"
An electric vehicle equipped with a Samsung SDI battery has set a new world record for the longest driving range and has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Samsung SDI announced on August 7 that its customer, the U.S.-based electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Motors, recently set a world record for single-charge driving range with its 'Lucid Air Grand Touring' model during a test drive.
During the test drive conducted last month on highways, mountain roads, and local roads between St. Moritz, Switzerland and Munich, Germany, the 'Lucid Air Grand Touring' was recorded as having traveled 1,205 kilometers without any additional charging. This is an increase of 160 kilometers compared to the previous record of 1,045 kilometers.
This achievement is the result of combining Samsung SDI's battery technology with Lucid's powertrain efficiency. The 'Lucid Air Grand Touring,' which was launched last year equipped with Samsung SDI batteries, is a model specialized for long-range driving. In addition to its outstanding battery performance and long driving range, it boasts acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 3 seconds, a maximum output of 831 horsepower, a top speed of 270 km/h, and the ability to drive 400 kilometers after just 16 minutes of rapid charging.
This vehicle is equipped with 6,600 Samsung SDI 21700 cylindrical batteries, which deliver world-class driving performance. The 21700 cylindrical battery is a high-performance battery based on a high-nickel nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) cathode and a silicon-based anode, offering high capacity, long life, and rapid charging capabilities.
Samsung SDI and Lucid formed a strategic partnership in 2016, and since then have introduced high-performance models such as the 'Lucid Air Dream Edition' equipped with Samsung SDI cylindrical batteries to the market.
Lucid Motors, founded in the United States in 2007, began by manufacturing electric vehicle battery packs and later entered the high-performance electric vehicle development sector. The company has gained recognition as a 'Tesla rival' by showcasing world-class powertrain technology. Currently, it operates a production base in Arizona, United States.
