If the Second Arrest Attempt Fails,
Reissuance of Warrant Considered
The special prosecutor team led by Min Jungki, which is investigating allegations related to Kim Keonhee, will attempt to re-execute the arrest warrant for former President Yoon Sukyeol on August 7.
According to legal sources on August 6, the special prosecutor team will attempt to execute the arrest warrant for former President Yoon at Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, on the morning of August 7, which is the expiration date of the warrant. This comes six days after the first attempt failed due to strong resistance from the former president.
During the first attempt, the former president lay on the floor of his solitary cell in his underwear and refused to be questioned, which led to the forced escort being called off.
Afterward, the special prosecutor team announced in a press briefing that they had notified the former president that, if necessary, they would use physical force to complete the execution of the warrant in the next attempt.
The special prosecutor team is also considering requesting a reissuance of the warrant if they fail to execute it this time as well.
The Ministry of Justice also stated that on this day, Minister Jeong Seongho instructed Seoul Detention Center to actively cooperate with the special prosecutor’s execution of the arrest warrant, so that strict and fair law enforcement is carried out in accordance with the law and principles.
