Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in South Jeolla Designated as Education Development Special Zones with 83.3 Billion KRW Budget Allocation

Expansion to Wando and Jindo Following Haenam Last Year
Fostering Talent Specialized in Renewable Energy, Marine and Fisheries, and Culture and Tourism
Park Jiwon: "We Will Maximize Results Through Ongoing Collaboration"

Following Haenam in South Jeolla Province, the regions of Wando and Jindo have also been designated as Education Development Special Zones (pilot regions), with a total budget allocation of 83.3 billion KRW.

Jiwon Park, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in South Jeolla Province, announced on August 6, "Following Haenam last year, Wando and Jindo have also been selected this year, meaning all three counties have now been designated as Education Development Special Zones."

Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in South Jeolla Designated as Education Development Special Zones with 83.3 Billion KRW Budget Allocation Park Jiwon, member of the Democratic Party of Korea.

With this designation, the three counties of Haenam, Wando, and Jindo will receive a total budget of 83.3 billion KRW from national funds, local funds, and the Office of Education by 2028. Specifically, Haenam will receive 34.8 billion KRW, Wando 26.5 billion KRW, and Jindo 22 billion KRW.

This Education Development Special Zone initiative is part of a policy response to population decline and the risk of local extinction. The main objectives include fostering region-specific talent, creating youth jobs, and supporting settlement in these areas. Each region plans to drive local development through specialized education and job-linked programs.

Haenam County will focus on nurturing talent in renewable energy and data centers, Wando County will provide education related to the marine and fisheries industries, and Jindo will specialize in cultivating talent for the culture, arts, and tourism industries. By combining the unique characteristics and industries of each region, the initiative is expected to stimulate the local economy and prevent the outflow of local talent.

Park stated, "I will continue to work to foster local talent and revitalize the job and settlement ecosystem," adding, "I would like to thank the Ministry of Education, South Jeolla Province, and the officials from the administrations and education offices of Haenam, Wando, and Jindo. We will collaborate to achieve the best possible results."

This is expected to serve as an important catalyst for the educational and economic development of the South Jeolla region.
