As construction begins in September on sections of the underground portion of Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2's hydrogen tram route, specifically at Bultigogae and the Daejeon Station underpass, the work will proceed without a complete road closure. However, citizens are expected to experience traffic inconvenience due to lane reductions.

On August 6, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo presided over a progress briefing for the construction of Urban Railway Line 2 in the main conference room at City Hall, reviewing the status of construction for sections 1, 2, and 7, which have already commenced, as well as the plans for sections 10 and 13, which include underground work.

The Bultigogae underpass project involves building a 560-meter-long, 10-meter-wide underpass from Domasamgeori to Bultigurum Bridge, with construction toward Domasamgeori beginning on September 2.

The construction period is scheduled for 36 months. During the installation of temporary decking, the existing eight to ten lanes will be reduced to four to six lanes. Once the decking is completed, six to eight lanes will be in operation.

The Daejeon Station underpass will be constructed over a total length of 295 meters and a width of 10 meters, including a portion of the existing underpass. Interior work on the existing underpass toward the East Plaza will begin on September 1. The construction period is 24 months, and during this time, the current six lanes will be reduced to three to four lanes.

In particular, the section of Gyebaek-ro sees an average of approximately 53,000 vehicles per day. Authorities will recommend detours via Doandae-ro and Doandong-ro, leading to either Dosol Tunnel or in the direction of Boksudong Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology.

Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "If the average vehicle speed in the city center drops below 20 km/h, commuters using the Seodaejeon IC?Anyeong IC?Panam IC expressway during rush hour will receive a 40% discount on tolls." He also requested, "Please manage the construction carefully to minimize inconvenience for citizens during the construction period, and do your utmost to ensure safe and rapid construction so that the line can open in 2028."

Meanwhile, Urban Railway Line 2 will span a total length of 38.8 kilometers with 45 stations. Construction of the vehicle depot is scheduled to be tendered in August, and all sections are expected to break ground in the second half of the year.
