Heatwave Relief Kits Delivered to Residents of Seoul's Jjokbangchon
Supporting Vulnerable Groups with Summer Supplies and Meals
The Life Insurance Social Contribution Committee announced on August 6 that it had donated 50 million won through the Korean Red Cross to support vulnerable groups at risk of heat-related illnesses living in Seoul's jjokbangchon (shantytown) neighborhoods during the peak summer heat.
The donation will be delivered to residents of jjokbangchon in Seoul, which are particularly vulnerable to heat waves, in the form of heatwave relief kits. These kits will include summer bedding sets and ready-to-eat nutritious meals.

The committee also supported donation points (10,000 won each) awarded to 5,149 finishers of the "Namsan Walking and Donation" event, organized by Seoul's Wrist Doctor 9988 program on June 14. In the names of the participants, a total of 51.49 million won was used to provide summer supplies and cover electricity bills for cooling devices for low-income families and elderly people living alone, who are particularly vulnerable to extreme summer heat.
Cheolju Kim, Chairman of the Life Insurance Social Contribution Committee, said, "I extend my heartfelt sympathy to those who, due to the record heatwave in 118 years, are forced to worry about their very survival in their own homes. I hope that the committee's small gesture will help residents have a cooler and healthier summer."
In March, the committee also donated 50 million won through the Korean Red Cross to support recovery efforts and assist disaster victims in areas affected by wildfires, and in July, provided another 50 million won to areas impacted by heavy rainfall.
