Sancheong County and 11 Gyeongnam Family Centers Support Flood Recovery Efforts On-site

Putting Community Solidarity into Practice through Voluntary Service Participation

Sancheong County in Gyeongnam Province announced on August 6 that the Gyeongsangnam-do Family Center Council, together with the Sancheong County Family Center, participated in volunteer activities for flood recovery, putting into practice their commitment to caring for neighbors.

This volunteer initiative was organized to support the swift restoration of areas in Sancheong that suffered significant damage from recent heavy rains, and to help residents return to their daily lives.

At the end of July, staff and officials from 11 family centers in Gyeongnam Province visited areas in Sancheong County that were affected by flooding of homes and inflow of mud, and took part in recovery efforts.

Participants carried out practical recovery tasks, including cleaning up flooded homes, removing mud from greenhouses, and disposing of household waste. Family center staff contributed directly on-site, helping the community recover.

This initiative served as an example of family centers in the province jointly responding to a social disaster through inter-institutional cooperation, demonstrating the solidarity and responsibility of family service organizations.

One participating staff member said, "It was meaningful to be able to offer even a small amount of support to residents struggling with flood damage." They added, "We will continue to participate in activities that support the local community."

Meanwhile, family centers regularly provide a variety of family services, including care, counseling, and education. The Sancheong County Family Center plans to take a more active role in responding to community crises following this initiative.
