Support for ESG Education, Consulting, and Self-Assessment
The Korea Commission for Corporate Partnership (KCCP) announced on August 6 that it had signed a business agreement with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to promote the "2025 ESG Support Program for Partner Companies."
This agreement aims to enhance the competitiveness of the entire domestic supply chain and establish a mutually beneficial ESG ecosystem by having an energy public enterprise and a co-growth specialist organization systematically support the sustainable management of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
KHNP will contribute 150 million won to the co-growth cooperation fund and, in accordance with the agreement, will jointly develop customized ESG evaluation indicators with the KCCP. Together, they will provide ESG education, self-assessment, on-site inspections (consulting), and improvement activities to 20 partner SMEs. Through this program, partner companies will be able to objectively assess their own ESG levels and establish directions for improvement. After consulting, the KCCP plans to issue an "ESG Excellent SME Certificate" to partner companies with outstanding compliance with ESG indicators.
This agreement goes beyond simple one-off support and represents a strategic partnership in which KHNP and the KCCP, together with partner companies, prepare for the future energy industry and secure sustainable competitiveness.
Meanwhile, KHNP was the first public institution in Korea to launch an ESG Committee and has set as its strategic goal the achievement of business performance and public value creation based on low-carbon and clean energy by 2036. These efforts have resulted in an annual reduction of over 90 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions and the highest-ever nuclear power generation output. They have also made significant contributions to creating social value for partner companies, such as reducing gaps in welfare, safety, and wages.
Lee Dalgon, Chairman of the KCCP, stated, "Through this agreement, KHNP has laid an important foundation as an ESG leader in the energy industry to create a sustainable future together with its partner companies. The KCCP will continue to actively support the sustainable growth of our industrial ecosystem and the spread of social value realization."
Hwang Jooho, President of KHNP, said, "We will promote customized ESG support programs for a variety of partner SMEs to foster co-growth and support companies wishing to export nuclear power plants, including those seeking contracts in the Czech Republic, in securing global competitiveness."
