Text Message Left by Daejeon Dating Murder Victim: "I'm Afraid I Might Be Killed"

Victim's Family Says She Expressed Fear to Relatives Before Her Death

It has been revealed that the victim of the Daejeon dating murder case expressed fear to her family last year, saying that the suspect might kill her.

On August 5, Yonhap News reported, citing the bereaved family of the victim, identified as A, that A had expressed fear of the suspect, identified as B, to her family in November of last year. At that time, the two had already broken up. This was also when A had reported suspect B to the police twice.

At that time, B was reported not only for property damage at a restaurant but also for taking A's motorcycle and not returning it.

According to the family, A sent messages to her family at the time, saying things like, "(The suspect) might suddenly come and kill me," and asked them to stay with her.

Previously, the police stated that they had informed A of safety measures such as increased patrols around her home, but A declined them.

After breaking up with B, A moved to a new residence to get away from him, but about eight months later, on July 29, she was murdered by B near her new home. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital but died.

The police, based on items such as the cell phone A had left behind, believed that A and B had previously been in a romantic relationship. They tracked B through analysis of closed-circuit (CC) TV footage and arrested him the following day in Sanseong-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon.

Just before his arrest, B attempted to poison himself, so the police were unable to immediately take him into custody. After being taken to the hospital, his health improved, and he was arrested six days after the initial attempt. The police plan to launch a full-scale investigation into the specific motive and circumstances of the murder.
