Samsung Electronics Gathers Top Humanoid Experts in Future Robot Task Force

Future Robot Task Force Recruiting Core Technology Developers
Job Reassignment Announced Just One Day After InnoX Lab Launch
Full-Scale Push to Commercialize Humanoids as a Future Growth Engine

Samsung Electronics is strengthening its competitiveness in the emerging field of "humanoids" as a future growth engine. The company has decided to bolster its technological capabilities by transferring internal experts in artificial intelligence (AI), algorithms, software, and module design to the Future Robot Task Force. The key focus areas for recruitment are core foundational technologies essential for humanoid development. Following the establishment of InnoX Lab, an organization dedicated to tackling high-level future challenges, Samsung is now making a full-scale push into the robotics sector.

According to industry sources on August 5, Samsung Electronics announced an internal job posting for workforce reallocation to accelerate robot technology development. The Future Robot Task Force plans to recruit personnel responsible for humanoid-related technology development in areas such as middleware, AI-based walking and full-body control, robot manipulation, and mechanical design. The core objective is to reorganize specialized talent to focus on developing foundational technologies, such as middleware?which acts as the "nervous system" connecting hardware and software?and walking and full-body control, which are considered central to humanoid development.

At the end of last year, Samsung Electronics acquired Rainbow Robotics, a specialized robotics company, as a subsidiary and established the Future Robot Task Force under the direct supervision of the CEO. This was an investment to build an organization with both the technological foundation and executional capability for the robotics business, which Samsung considers a future growth driver. Oh Jun-ho, a leading robotics authority in South Korea and founder of Rainbow Robotics, was appointed as the head of the task force. Earlier this year, Samsung also assigned executives who had been overseeing robotics-related businesses within the company to the team.

Recently, major global big tech companies such as Tesla and Apple have been accelerating their efforts to secure humanoid technologies, positioning humanoids as the next-generation platform. Samsung Electronics' workforce reallocation is seen as a strategy to rapidly concentrate internal capabilities and secure technological leadership. Industry insiders expect that the robotics business will generate significant synergy when combined with Samsung's existing core technologies in AI, semiconductors, batteries, and sensors.

In particular, with the announcement of the establishment of InnoX Lab the previous day, there is growing sentiment that Samsung Electronics' robotics business has reached a new turning point. Although the company established a robotics business team in 2021, it had not shown significant progress. However, with the organizational restructuring and redeployment of specialized personnel, Samsung is now building a practical execution system aimed at mid- to long-term commercialization.

Samsung Electronics established InnoX Lab under its DX (Device eXperience) division as an organization dedicated to large-scale, company-wide strategic projects. In its initial phase, the top priorities include developing core technologies for humanoid robots and manufacturing automation based on physical AI. Strengthened collaboration between the Future Robot Task Force and AI technology teams is anticipated.

An industry official commented, "Until now, Samsung's robotics business was close to a hardware-focused technology demonstration. Moving forward, commercialization will be centered on AI-based humanoid platforms," adding, "This is a process of fundamentally reshaping the landscape."
