Lee Yesung of Daegu Gunwi Elementary Wins Individual Title at Kyobo Life Cup Dream Tree Tennis Tournament

The Daegu Gunwi Elementary School (Principal Kim Bongsoo) tennis team achieved remarkable results at the '2025 Kyobo Life Cup Dream Tree Tennis Tournament,' which was held at the Gimcheon Sports Town Tennis Court in Gyeongsangbuk-do from July 26 to August 1, 2025. The team won the runner-up prize in the team event and secured victory in the individual event.


This year marked the 41st edition of the tournament, with over 500 elementary school athletes from across the country participating. The tournament was held as both individual competitions (for ages 10 and 12) and regional team events.

In the team event, four students from Daegu Gunwi Elementary School (supervising teacher Han Jaejun, coach Lee Changbok)?Oh Seungjae, Kwon Guhun (6th grade), Lee Yesung, and Kim Jiseop (5th grade)?competed as part of the Daegu representative team.


The Daegu representative team advanced to the finals after fierce competition but narrowly lost to the Gyeonggi-do representative team with a score of 2 to 3, earning the runner-up position. Notably, four out of the six Daegu team members were from Daegu Gunwi Elementary School, once again demonstrating the school's outstanding tennis capabilities.


In the individual event, Lee Yesung (5th grade) claimed the championship by defeating Jeong Seungwoo (Munmak Elementary School, 6th grade) in the finals with a set score of 2 to 0 (first set 6 to 1, second set 6 to 3). Having finished in a tie for third place in the previous tournament, Lee Yesung showcased further improved skills this time and achieved the honor of winning the championship.


Lee Yesung said, "I wanted to achieve a better result than last time, so I am really happy and proud to have won the championship. Everyone worked really hard, both as a team and individually."


Principal Kim Bongsoo stated, "This achievement is the valuable result of our students' effort and passion. We will continue to provide active support so that our students can pursue even greater dreams through sports."


Meanwhile, the Daegu Gunwi Elementary School tennis team has consistently produced excellent results on the national stage, including winning the team event at the 29th Korea Elementary Tennis Federation President's Cup and earning a gold medal in the individual event at the 54th National Youth Sports Festival, further solidifying its reputation as a prestigious elementary school for tennis.
