Lee Huisam Appointed as Chief Secretary for Political Affairs and Shin Hyunseong as Chief Secretary for Civil Affairs at Prime Minister's Office, Both from Chungcheong Region

On August 5, it was reported that former Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Huisam has been nominated as Chief Secretary for Political Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office, and lawyer Shin Hyunseong has been nominated as Chief Secretary for Civil Affairs. Both individuals are from the Chungcheong region, and Shin Hyunseong is an alumnus of Chung-Ang University Law School, like President Lee Jaemyung.

According to officials at the Prime Minister's Office on this day, the selection process for both Lee Huisam and Shin Hyunseong is in its final stages, and their appointments are expected as early as this week. With this, the so-called "three chief secretaries (Grade 1)" appointments at the Prime Minister's Office will be completed, including former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Hyeyoung, who was nominated as Chief Secretary for Public Relations last month.


Lee Huisam, who has been nominated as Chief Secretary for Political Affairs, is from Danyang, North Chungcheong Province. He served as the lawmaker for Jecheon and Danyang in North Chungcheong during the 20th National Assembly, and was the CEO of Airport Railroad from 2021 to 2024. Shin Hyunseong, a former deputy chief prosecutor, is from Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, and served as a senior expert member of the Economic Affairs Division 1 at the National Policy Planning Committee under the Lee Jaemyung administration.
