Performances by TXT, Insooni, fromis_9, and More

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) announced on August 5 that, to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation, it will hold the "We Are the Light" Liberation 80th Anniversary Eve Festival together with the public at the Heungnyemun Square of Gyeongbokgung Palace at 8 p.m. on August 14.

The MCST explained that the event will be filled with a variety of cultural and artistic programs that span generations and social classes, aiming to heighten the joy of Liberation Day and to envision the unity and future of Korea together. The theme of the eve festival, "We Are the Light," carries the meaning that all citizens who have built the Republic of Korea over the past 80 years have themselves been the "light," and that the next 80 years will also be illuminated together.

Top artists from various generations and fields will take the stage for the eve festival. Popular culture artists such as the globally active K-pop group Tomorrow X Together (TXT), dance crew Beomjeop, Insooni, fromis_9, and H1-KEY will present a variety of performances. National arts organizations including the National Dance Company of Korea, the National Chorus of Korea, Seodo Band, Seoul Performing Arts Company, the History Children's Choir, and Harmonize will also participate, offering diverse performances that cross genres such as Korean traditional music, musicals, choral music, and traditional arts. The event will be further enriched with visual effects that combine modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and media facade.

Any citizen of the Republic of Korea can participate in this eve festival. Those wishing to attend (Light Companions) may apply in advance for themselves and one companion from 10 a.m. on August 5 to August 7 via the MCST or the Liberation 80th Anniversary Project Committee website. If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, final participants will be selected by lottery. Individual notification messages will be sent to those who are finally invited.

Minister Choi Hwi-young of the MCST stated, "I hope that this eve festival, prepared to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation, will be a time for everyone to feel each other's presence as light and to connect through culture, just as the message 'We Are the Light' suggests," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that everyone can enjoy the event together and reflect on the meaning of Liberation during this meaningful occasion."
