On the afternoon of August 4, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo met with Kim Moonsu, a candidate for the People Power Party leadership, who visited Daejeon City Hall. During the meeting, Mayor Lee stated, "In order to become a ruling party, we must fundamentally reform the party's structure," and added, "More competent young people need to join the party."
Mayor Lee further criticized the party by saying, "The biggest problem with our party is that it does not listen to the voices of local government heads at all," and continued, "The communication channels are completely blocked. While there is a general assembly for lawmakers, there is no structure for meetings of local government heads or for metropolitan and provincial governors."
In response, candidate Kim Moonsu replied, "If I become the party leader, I will make sure to listen to the opinions of metropolitan and basic local government heads, as well as metropolitan and basic council members."
Mayor Lee also emphasized pragmatism, stating, "If it benefits the lives of the people and helps the nation move toward the future, we must continuously accept both conservative and progressive policies."
