There was a time when design was confined solely to the realm of emotion, but there is a university that interprets design through the language of technology and industry. Hoseo University, which began its design education with the establishment of the Department of Industrial Design in 1978, leads practice-oriented design education based on its philosophy of "design built upon technology."
On August 4, Hoseo University announced that it is breaking down the boundaries between majors and conducting team-based practical education through its "Design School," a convergence platform that integrates Visual, Interior, Industrial Design, and Digital Product Design departments.
In particular, by directly reflecting corporate workflows?from user emotion analysis to product planning and prototyping?students grow into designers sought after by companies even before graduation.
Over the past five years, Design School students have won numerous awards at the world’s three major design competitions: Red Dot, iF, and IDEA. The Department of Industrial Design has also ranked among the top in both Asian and global university rankings.
The Department of Digital Product Design, in particular, is attracting attention for its curriculum that is linked with next-generation industries such as UX/UI, smart devices, and digital content.
It is also expanding its educational scope to future design fields such as emotional AI and data visualization, nurturing practical talent who can immediately adapt to the industrial field.
Furthermore, through workshops involving professionals from global companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Dyson, as well as active exchanges with prestigious overseas design schools, the university is cultivating designers equipped with both global sensibility and practical skills.
Lee Danbi, Head of the Brand Design Center, emphasized, "Hoseo University Design School is the cradle of next-generation super designers, connecting creativity with practicality, and technology with art."
Meanwhile, Hoseo University defines design not as mere creation, but as an industrial strategic language. Practical talents who will lead the future of design are being nurtured here.
