Gwangmyeong City Wins Grand Prize at Gyeonggi Province Low Birthrate Response Best Practices Contest

This contest has been held annually since 2016 to share and spread regionally customized policies discovered by cities and counties within Gyeonggi Province. Previously, the city received the Encouragement Award at last year's contest.

This year, six entries advanced to the finals through a preliminary screening process, and the rankings were determined based on the evaluation of an expert judging panel.

The city explained that it received high marks at this year's contest for its various low birthrate response policies, including the implementation of life-cycle-based spatial welfare projects, support programs for diverse family structures, and expanded support for families with multiple children.

The city also stated that it is focusing on building a comprehensive welfare infrastructure tailored to each stage of life and creating a family-friendly environment to ensure that the population flowing in due to large-scale redevelopment and reconstruction projects can settle stably in the city.

To this end, the city is promoting customized policies tailored to each age group, such as infant and toddler care, youth support, establishment of women’s safety infrastructure, expansion of job opportunities for the middle-aged, and strengthening welfare for the elderly. The city is also enhancing inclusive policies for multicultural and foreign families and expanding support for families with multiple children to increase the inclusiveness and sustainability of its policies.

Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, said, "We will continue to build a family-friendly city where everyone, from children to seniors, wants to settle down and live happily through life-cycle-based policies."
