As of 2:28 p.m. on this day, YG PLUS shares were trading at 8,570 won, up 6.58% from the previous day.
The news that Netflix will officially commercialize "K-Pop Demon Hunters" seems to have acted as a positive factor. Previously, on July 22 (local time), Netflix independently filed a trademark application related to "K-Pop Demon Hunters" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The application is currently awaiting assignment to an examiner. This move is interpreted as Netflix’s intention to further strengthen its intellectual property rights not only for the film series but also for consumer products such as clothing, toys, and sports goods.
"K-Pop Demon Hunters," featuring a K-pop idol group as the main characters, recorded 26.3 million views in just its sixth week after its Netflix original movie premiere. Netflix stated, "'K-Pop Demon Hunters' has become the most popular Netflix animation in history as a film." It was also reported that Netflix is discussing not only a sequel to this work but also a live-action film and musical production.
Meanwhile, on July 22, YG PLUS announced that it had entered into a partnership with Netflix to handle global distribution of soundtracks (OST) for Korean original series. Accordingly, YG PLUS plans to distribute major OST tracks from Netflix Korean series and films to over 190 countries worldwide. In addition, YG PLUS will collaborate on OST distribution and related campaigns for works produced by Netflix in partnership with Korean creators.
