Announcement of Feasibility Study Results by the Site Selection Committee
Final Site to Be Determined After Collecting Residents' Opinions
Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Son Byungbok) officially announced on July 31, 2025, the "Feasibility Study Process and Results for the Siting of Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Facility," and, following deliberation by the Waste Treatment Facility Site Selection Committee, selected three optimal candidate sites.
This announcement was made to select an alternative site for the existing waste treatment facility. In January 2024, the county formed the Uljin County Waste Treatment Facility Site Selection Committee, composed of local residents (3), experts (4), county council members (2), and public officials (2). Through several in-depth meetings, the committee selected the optimal candidate sites by the first half of 2025.
The Site Selection Committee conducted a comprehensive analysis of the candidate sites by assessing and investigating site conditions and conducting evaluations in various fields (site, social, environmental, technical, and economic). As a result, three optimal candidate sites were selected. The results of the feasibility study will be publicly announced for more than 20 days through the county website and official gazette, and within 15 days after the public announcement period ends, residents' opinions will be officially collected.
Subsequently, strategic environmental impact assessments and climate environmental impact assessments will be conducted for the optimal candidate sites. The final site will be confirmed and officially announced through a fair and transparent process.
Governor Son Byungbok stated, "To establish a comprehensive waste treatment facility for future generations, we will fully communicate with local residents and respect their opinions," adding, "We will concentrate all administrative efforts to ensure the facility is built in an environmentally friendly and safe manner."
