The Gwangmyeong City Government announced that, starting from August 4 and continuing until next month, it will operate the 'Yangsinyangsan Rental Program' to help citizens prevent heat-related illnesses caused by the heatwave.
Using a parasol can block direct sunlight, lowering the perceived temperature by up to 15 degrees Celsius, and also protect skin and eye health by blocking ultraviolet rays.
Parasols have been placed on the first floor of 33 public facilities, including the main city hall building, the Women's Vision Center, the Citizen Sports Center, 19 administrative welfare centers in each district, the Lifelong Learning Center, Gwangmyeong, Cheolsan, Haan, and Soha libraries, Gwangmyeong, Cheolsan, and Haan general social welfare centers, and Haan and Soha senior welfare centers. Each location has 40 to 50 parasols available. Borrowed parasols must be returned to the same location within three days.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, said, "I hope everyone, regardless of age or gender, makes it a habit to use a parasol and enjoys a healthy and safe summer."
Meanwhile, the city has designated the period until September 30 as the 'Summer Heatwave Response Period' and is operating a heatwave response task force (TF) composed of relevant departments. The TF is implementing various measures, including operating cooling centers, protecting vulnerable groups, and promoting safety guidelines during heatwave advisories.
