President Lee's Approval Rating Rebounds to 63.3% After 3 Weeks, Sharp Rise in PK and TK Regions

Democratic Party Shows Upward Trend in Approval Rating

President Lee Jaemyung's approval rating for state affairs has rebounded after three weeks. The Democratic Party of Korea, which recently held its national convention, has seen a rise in support, widening the gap with the People Power Party.

According to a public opinion poll released by pollster Realmeter on August 4 (conducted from July 28 to August 1 among 2,520 voters aged 18 or older nationwide, using a 100% wireless automated response method, with a margin of error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), President Lee's approval rating rose by 1.8 percentage points from the previous week, reaching 63.3%. The increase appears to have been positively influenced by his strong stance on industrial accidents and the conclusion of the South Korea-US tariff negotiations, among other factors.

Notably, support in Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam and Daegu·Gyeongbuk rose by 6.8 percentage points and 5.4 percentage points, respectively, marking an increase in regions where support has traditionally been weak. Among conservative voters, support also increased by 3.0 percentage points.

The negative evaluation stood at 31.4%, down 1.6 percentage points from the previous week.

Realmeter explained, "The Democratic Party's rise in support appears to be influenced by the stable governance of the Lee Jaemyung administration and the political backlash from the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor issue." Regarding the People Power Party, Realmeter analyzed, "The main reasons for the decline in support seem to be public disappointment over the special prosecutor issue related to former President Yoon Sukyeol and internal factional conflicts surrounding the party leadership election."
