Jeong Cheongrae: "No Justification to Oppose Arrest Motions for Lee Junseok or People Power Party Lawmakers... Will Process Immediately"

"Yoon Resists in an Embarrassing Manner... We Must Not Back Down"
"If an Arrest Motion Comes with the Special Investigation, It Will Be Processed Immediately"

Jeong Cheongrae, who was elected as the new leader of the Democratic Party, has called for a strong response to the situation in which former President Yoon Sukyeol, currently incarcerated, is refusing to comply with an arrest warrant.

In an interview with JTBC on August 2, Jeong stated, "It seems he is resisting in an embarrassing way, even undressing himself," and added, "But law enforcement must not be stopped. If we keep retreating, even more degrading forms of resistance will follow."

He continued, "This is a matter of will to enforce the law," and said, "If necessary, he can be forcibly executed by wrapping him in curtains or blankets."

Regarding the motion for consent to arrest, Jeong also expressed a firm stance. He said, "Those who insisted on passing the motion for consent to arrest during Lee Jaemyung's case have no justification to oppose it if such a motion comes for Representative Lee Junseok or any member of the People Power Party," and added, "The Democratic Party will process it immediately."

On the possibility of filing for the dissolution of the People Power Party, Jeong said, "It will be similar to the 1988 Fifth Republic hearings and the Gwangju hearings," and predicted, "The moment the special investigations into insurrection, Kim Keonhee, and the Chae Marine case announce their results, public opinion demanding the dissolution of the People Power Party will rapidly intensify."

Jeong emphasized, "When that time comes, the People Power Party and the Democratic Party will have no choice but to go their separate ways," and added, "As the leader of the Democratic Party, I will fulfill my role."

He continued his criticism of former President Yoon and the People Power Party. Jeong pointed out, "The Unified Progressive Party was dissolved and its lawmakers were stripped of their seats merely on charges of conspiracy to commit insurrection," and added, "Yet, the People Power Party's first member, Yoon Sukyeol, actually committed insurrection and was removed from office, but there is still a prevailing atmosphere of defending him."

He stated, "There must first be a public apology and sincere repentance for former President Yoon's insurrection and opposition to impeachment," and added, "If the People Power Party truly wishes to break with the past, introspection and reflection must come first."
