Video Address at the Party Convention
"We Must Unite Around the New Leadership"
On August 2, President Lee Jaemyung stated, "As proven in the last presidential election, the Democratic Party is strongest when it stands united," and called for everyone to move forward without hesitation toward a nation where the people are the true owners and a Korea where the people are happy.
President Lee delivered these remarks in a video message sent to the Democratic Party's national convention held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, where a new party leader was being elected. He said, "I believe the Democratic Party will become 'one team' and take the lead in fulfilling the mission entrusted by the people and history." On this day, the Democratic Party is electing a new leader to serve the remainder of President Lee’s term, as he was the party leader before the presidential election.
President Lee also said, "One year ago, I too stood here together with my comrades," and added, "I pledged to restore growth and create a nation of hope, a Korea that runs forward again, by uniting the strength of the people and party members."
He continued, "We are all comrades who share the same vision and are heading toward the same goal. Even if we have fiercely competed for a while, from this very moment, let us unite under the new leadership and move forward without hesitation toward a nation where the people are the true owners and a Korea where the people are happy."
President Lee further emphasized, "I never forget, even for a moment, the solemn mandate from the people to build a nation that grows and leaps forward again, where everyone prospers together."
