Video Congratulatory Message at the Ruling Party's National Convention
On August 2, President Lee Jaemyung stated, "I trust the new (Democratic Party) leadership and fellow party members, and I will faithfully fulfill my duties as the 21st President of the Republic of Korea."
President Lee made these remarks in a congratulatory address at the Democratic Party's national convention for the election of the new party leader, held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on this day. He added, "I extend my congratulations to the soon-to-be-inaugurated new leader and leadership team."
President Lee emphasized, "I believe the Democratic Party will take the lead as 'one team' on the path to fulfilling the mission entrusted by the people and history. As proven in the last presidential election, the Democratic Party is strongest when united." He continued, "Even if there was competition, from now on, let us unite around the new leadership and move forward toward a nation where the people are sovereign and a Korea where the people are happy."
President Lee also said, "Only if we wisely overcome the waves of crisis we face can we build a new nation of hope," adding, "I never forget, even for a moment, the goal that the people have solemnly mandated: 'a nation that grows again and prospers together.'"
On this day, the Democratic Party is electing a new leader at the national convention to succeed President Lee's remaining term as party leader before the presidential election. After the convention, President Lee is scheduled to travel to Jeodo, Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, for his summer vacation.
