"One of the biggest concerns for medical professionals is that patients find it difficult to consistently commit to treatment and rehabilitation. Through 'MORA,' we aim to become a game-changer in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders."

On August 4, Yoon Chan, CEO of EverEx, a digital healthcare company specializing in musculoskeletal disorders, shared this ambition in an interview with Asia Economy. EverEx successfully secured a Series B investment totaling 14.8 billion KRW on July 31. This achievement comes two years after raising 8 billion KRW in Series A funding in 2023.

EverEx developed Korea's first digital solution for musculoskeletal disorders. Based on its musculoskeletal rehabilitation exercise treatment brand 'MORA,' the company has developed and commercialized four solutions: MORA Care, MORA Vu, MORA Cure, and MORA Ex.

In February, EverEx signed a business agreement with the Korea Industrial Health Association to provide musculoskeletal analysis and customized health management programs to workers at 19 regional branches and centers nationwide. Last year, EverEx collaborated with the global pharmaceutical company Novartis to offer musculoskeletal health management services to patients in need of exercise. In addition, the company is expanding commercialization in various medical environments through collaborations with domestic and international hospitals, government agencies, global pharmaceutical companies, and academic societies.

CEO Yoon is an orthopedic surgeon who graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine. He founded EverEx with the vision of addressing the shortcomings in rehabilitation exercise treatment he observed while treating patients, using digital technology. He said, "Consistent rehabilitation treatment is needed in clinical settings, but in reality, patients find it difficult to visit the hospital three to four times a week. This motivated me to develop a digital therapeutic device (DTx)."

For patients with musculoskeletal disorders, rehabilitation exercise is the most clinically recommended treatment. However, in practice, this is one of the areas most difficult to implement due to time, space, and economic constraints. To address this, EverEx has brought together about 50 experts specializing in medicine, artificial intelligence (AI), software medical devices, and regulatory affairs to develop digital healthcare solutions centered on MORA.

MORA is a rehabilitation exercise curriculum developed based on medical evidence. It offers about 3,000 exercise movements and over 200 exercise programs for 10 areas of the body, including the neck, back, knees, and shoulders. It provides patients with feedback based on their exercise progress and automatically updates the curriculum accordingly. This is the main difference from general exercise content commonly found on platforms like YouTube.

In particular, EverEx's proprietary AI posture estimation model, Griffin, is a key strength. Griffin has learned from 700,000 musculoskeletal exercise movement data points, enabling medical evaluation of musculoskeletal function and balance. Unlike open-source AI models used by competitors, Griffin is specialized in estimating musculoskeletal posture. Using only a smartphone camera, it extracts 24 joint points, including five spinal points, to estimate posture in real time. By precisely analyzing movements, patients can undergo rehabilitation treatment alone at home.

To ensure patients can consistently receive treatment, EverEx has enhanced treatment effectiveness by combining stepwise exercise therapy with cognitive behavioral therapy for musculoskeletal disorders. EverEx is the only company developing musculoskeletal digital therapeutic devices that incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy. Physicians continuously monitor patient progress and respond to patient inquiries.

CEO Yoon stated, "Our goal is to create a service where every patient can easily receive personalized rehabilitation treatment." He added, "While the area of direct face-to-face consultation between patients and medical professionals will not disappear, many other aspects can be replaced by digital solutions." He emphasized, "Ultimately, we want to change the paradigm of rehabilitation treatment so that anyone can access personalized rehabilitation services regardless of time, location, or economic constraints."
