The city of Gwangju announced on the 1st that it plans to appoint Kim Youngmoon, former Presidential Secretary for Social Integration, as the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy, effective August 4.
Kim, the nominee, is a policy expert with extensive experience in central administration and party operations. He has served as Senior Administrator and Secretary for Social Integration at the Presidential Office, Director of Finance for the Democratic Party of Korea, and Policy Researcher at the National Assembly.
The city expects that his outstanding political acumen, balanced leadership, and strong network with the Lee Jaemyung administration and the National Assembly will serve as a catalyst for conflict resolution, cooperation, and communication in areas such as Gwangju's culture and arts, economy, and civil society.
The city also assessed that, based on his experience in policy cooperation between the government and the ruling party, he will play a bridging role connecting the central government, National Assembly, and the region, and contribute to securing national funding to revitalize the local economy.
A city official stated, "Kim's administrative expertise and integrative leadership will provide real momentum for the balanced development of culture and industry and the integration of the local community, which are the main directions of the 8th popularly elected administration. We expect to see tangible results in attracting new industries to the region, building a startup ecosystem for young people, and fostering the cultural content industry."
