An incident occurred in Nebraska, United States, where a five-month-old baby boy died after being left unattended in a car during a heat wave. Local police arrested the baby's father on charges of child neglect resulting in death. On July 31 (local time), the New York Post reported that in Hastings, Nebraska, a baby was found unconscious inside a car. Emergency rescue measures were attempted, but the baby was pronounced dead.
The incident took place on July 28. That afternoon, Hastings police received a report and immediately responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the child and, together with rescue personnel, performed emergency procedures including CPR. The child was transported to a nearby hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead. The deceased was a five-month-old boy. Police stated, "Preliminary investigations indicate that direct exposure to extreme heat was identified as the immediate cause of death."
At the time, a heat advisory was in effect across Nebraska, including Hastings, and temperatures soared to 36.6 degrees Celsius. On the day of the incident, police arrested the baby's father, Jeremy Hanson (36), on charges of causing death by child neglect and took him into custody. The Adams County District Attorney's Office officially charged Hanson on July 30.
In a statement, police said, "This is a deeply heartbreaking tragedy, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, first responders, and everyone affected by this shocking loss."
