Real-time Detection and 24-hour Repairs
Operation of the 'Smart Road Management System'
On August 1, Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will begin full-scale operation of its 'Smart Road Management System,' which detects risk factors on roads in real time and enables rapid response.
This system equips public vehicles with object recognition cameras that detect risk factors such as road subsidence (potholes) in real time while driving. The detected information is automatically transmitted to the relevant personnel, who then notify local road maintenance companies. These companies are required to be dispatched to the site and complete repairs within 24 hours.
The city expects that operating the system will enable the early removal of accident risk factors on roads, reduce the number of road repair service requests and dispatches, and cut related budgets such as compensation for damage to public facilities.
Jeong Seokgi, head of the Construction Administration Division of Siheung City, stated, "We will actively utilize the smart system to ensure the safety and comfort of roads, which are directly connected to citizens' daily lives."
