People Power Party Youth Supreme Council Candidate
"I Remember When You Treated Me to a Meal After My Seoul National University Acceptance"
"Please Return to the Teacher Who Cared for Your Students' Lives"
Woo Jaejun, a lawmaker who has declared his candidacy for the Youth Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, revealed that he was once a student of Jeon Hangil, a renowned Korean history lecturer. In an open letter, Woo appealed, "Please return to us, as you once cared deeply for your students' lives."

On July 31, Woo posted a letter titled "A Letter to Teacher Jeon Hangil" on Facebook, where he shared that he had been a student taking Korean geography and history classes at Daegu Yushin Academy in 2005.
He wrote, "You may not remember, but when I was accepted to Seoul National University, you treated me to a meal. I still vividly recall you smiling brightly and saying, 'The people who wish for your success the most are your parents and your teacher.' In my memory, you were someone who truly cherished your students."
Woo went on to recount an incident from last winter, when he met a student who opposed the impeachment. "That student said that if the Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment, he would take up arms and attack the court. When I asked why, he replied, 'Because Teacher Jeon Hangil told me to,'" Woo said.
Woo added, "Fortunately, after I consoled the student, he did not go through with such actions. However, I am worried and afraid that among those who attacked the Western District Court, there might be someone who acted based on your words."
He continued, "Many students remember your teachings and are influenced by them. While I understand your deep concern for the country, I do not believe that such actions are in the best interest of the nation or your students."
Woo emphasized, "As regrettable as it is, former President Yoon Sukyeol's declaration of martial law was clearly wrong and by no means a trivial mistake. Therefore, terms like 'enlightenment order' are incorrect. If we deny this, there will be no future for our country or our party." He further pointed out, "Statements in support of martial law could lead to misunderstandings and misguided perceptions."
In closing, Woo appealed, "So, teacher, I hope you will stop now. Please return to the way you once cared for your students' lives."
On the morning of the same day, Woo officially announced his candidacy for the Youth Supreme Council member at the National Assembly. He is the first incumbent lawmaker to run in the People Power Party's Supreme Council election. During his candidacy press conference, he also read aloud the letter addressed to Jeon.
