Yecheon County Finalizes Official Symbols for Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival

Twelve Emblems, Mascots, Posters, and Slogans Selected

On July 30, the Yecheon County Government in North Gyeongsang Province held a judging committee at the county government’s main auditorium to select the official symbols for the 64th Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival, which will be co-hosted with Andong City in April next year. At this meeting, the final 12 winning entries were confirmed.

This contest was open to the public nationwide for 40 days, from May 30 to July 8. A total of 182 entries were submitted, including 17 emblems, 11 mascots, 9 posters, and 145 slogans.

The judging committee consisted of experts in sports and the arts. They comprehensively evaluated each work based on understanding, creativity, symbolism, and completeness. As a result, they selected a total of 12 winning entries: for each category?emblem, mascot, and poster?one grand prize and one excellence award; for the slogan category, one grand prize, two excellence awards, and three encouragement awards.

The winning emblem symbolizes the harmony and dynamism of the province’s residents, inspired by the clear waters of the upper Nakdong River in Andong and the pristine mountains of Yecheon.

The mascot incorporates the characters of both cities and counties, reflecting the friendliness and unity of Gyeongbuk residents. The poster features Hahoe Village and Hoeryongpo as backgrounds, expressing the passion of the athletes and the vibrant future of Gyeongbuk.

The grand prize-winning slogan is "A Sports Festival of Harmony Together, A Gyeongbuk Sports Festival Opening the Future," emphasizing the unity of the residents and the vision for regional development.

Yecheon County plans to finalize the winning entries after verifying originality and, by November, complete the official symbols to actively promote the festival.

Kang Sangki, Deputy Governor of Yecheon, said, "I would like to thank everyone who participated in the contest. The selected symbols will greatly contribute to the successful hosting and promotion of next year's event," and added, "We ask for your continued interest and support so that the Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival can become a venue for harmony and progress."
