Global content publisher Neorigin announced on the 31st that it is in discussions with overseas companies to expand cooperation in the short-form drama business. The aim of these discussions is to expand the business and service domain of 'Topreels', the first short-form drama platform in Korea, to the global market, in response to the rapidly growing global short-form drama market.
In particular, Neorigin is most actively discussing cooperation with a major global company based in the United States. Topreels is experiencing rapid growth, currently offering approximately 130 accumulated content titles and exclusive original works. Over the past year, revenue distribution has been 39% from Korea, 27% from the United States, 10% from Japan, and 24% from other regions, indicating a high proportion of overseas sales.
As of the end of March this year, Topreels surpassed 220,000 cumulative downloads. Both monthly active users (MAU) and average revenue per paid user (ARPPU) have continued to increase, placing profitability on a solid track. Recognizing these achievements, the company recently secured Series A investment from Korea Investment Partners, further proving the competitiveness and business potential of the platform.
Short-form content is showing explosive growth, especially among the MZ generation, and is being subdivided into various genres such as drama and entertainment. Recently, in Korea, a leading portal site announced the launch of a webtoon-based short-form animation (short-ani) service, further expanding the market's potential.
A Neorigin representative stated, "Currently, the global short-form drama content market is led by Chinese companies, but it is still in the early stages of growth with no absolute dominant player," adding, "As with the early OTT market, the need for a greater volume and diversity of content genres is gradually increasing."
He continued, "We plan to create synergy by combining the global popularity of K-content, our planning and production capabilities, and our platform competitiveness," adding, "We have begun active discussions with overseas companies to expand our business domain."
