Jang Donghyuk, a lawmaker representing Boryeong-si and Seocheon-gun in South Chungcheong Province and a candidate in the People Power Party's leadership election, stated, "This morning, I completed my registration as a candidate for the People Power Party's leadership." He continued, "I believe a generational shift and political renewal are needed within the People Power Party. In that sense, my election would mark the beginning of innovation," expressing his determination to run.
On the afternoon of July 31, Jang Donghyuk visited the press room at Daejeon City Hall as his first official schedule in the region and made these remarks.
Jang Donghyuk said, "The primary goal of a political party is to win elections, but it is regrettable that we have repeatedly lost. I believe the first role of an opposition party is to properly check the ruling party and to fight against the Lee Jaemyung administration, thereby regaining the trust of the people."
He added, "A political party should unite as one and create an organization capable of fighting effectively. To do so, we need a system where those who fight properly are fairly evaluated and can receive nominations. Furthermore, we must develop and nurture new talent to fill the party with individuals capable of fighting effectively, thereby establishing such a system."
He also offered criticism regarding internal affairs within the People Power Party.
He emphasized, "The truth is, up until now, we have fought without strategy or tactics. I will work to improve the party's structure so that we can fight with proper strategies and policies."
He further promised, "Rather than merely checking or pointing out the ruling party's mistakes, I will improve the party's system so that we can become a policy-oriented party that presents alternatives."
