Oh Sehoon: "Excessive Checks on State Affairs Were the Cause"
Park Jumin: "Has Become a Force Defending Insurrection, Beyond the Far Right"
Park Jumin, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, once again issued a warning to Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon, asking, "Are you trying to justify martial law?" Park had previously criticized the provocative thumbnails and content of Mayor Oh's YouTube channel, 'Oh Sehoon TV'.
On July 31, Park Jumin pointed out on his Facebook page, "Oh Sehoon, the Seoul mayor who is defending insurrection, are you in your right mind?" He argued that, despite the Constitutional Court's judgment that former President Yoon Sukyeol undermined the foundation of democratic politics by treating the National Assembly?a body to be respected for cooperation?as an object of exclusion, Mayor Oh continued to act in this manner.
On this day, Oh Sehoon TV uploaded a video titled "You should think about this." The video excerpted an SBS News interview in which Mayor Oh shared his views on martial law.
Mayor Oh stated, "In the process leading up to the declaration of martial law, people may have forgotten now, but at the time, the opposition party excessively hindered the administration of state affairs by insisting, 'Let's investigate everything with a special prosecutor,' and 'Let's prevent the executive branch from functioning at all.' This was clearly a cause. Of course, the declaration of martial law was an excessive reaction, which led to these events. Now that we are the opposition, we should reorganize the party so that it can faithfully fulfill its role, and reform measures should be focused on that."
He continued, "Above all, what must be kept in mind is that, even in silent observation, there are many citizens watching with keen eyes. I hope that in this party convention, there will be discourse on what role the future People Power Party will play in contributing to the country's development and whether it will be able to fulfill its role as a robust force."
However, Park Jumin strongly objected to justifying martial law. He stated, "Mayor Oh Sehoon's argument for justifying martial law is akin to suggesting we consider the reasons for pointing guns at citizens and the National Assembly by mobilizing the military," adding, "It is chilling. It is a clear insult to the citizens who stood unarmed against armored vehicles and soldiers in front of the National Assembly. Mayor Oh Sehoon, who has gone beyond merely taking the path of the far right and is now at the forefront of defending insurrection, seems to have truly gone beyond the point of no return."
